Reviews of The Butterfly Effect 4 by Jerry Jay

Just Can't Get Enough
by 'dxl'

I am always expecting something extra but You always suprise me with even more original Intros ot Outros. You 'pushed-off' this track suprisingly again! I have no idea where it is from!? It's funny in very positive way! What about your mixing techniques - you're still improving, I mean you're better and better. I don't know how many versions of JCGE you used, but I like it 'cause some sequencies are new for me or I listened it only few times. I especially love the 'KICK' of the mix, it sounds a bit faster than original song. You have certainly choosen good beats and it fits together.

I don't know if it is like You wanted to do, but at 3:23 I miss a few bass tones so for me it sounds like it was cut inproperly...but on the other hand it's maybe because of faster transition between loops. The best part of this song comes just after the sequencies with the piano...when the chorus begins and that tiny synth sound at 5:43 is brilliant. Nice intention till the end. Everything is well 'united' together, so now I really understand that You were more than happy with this mix.

The Sun And The Rainfall
by 'Reaps'

I am a big fan of Reaps' darkness in his mixes. That's why I call him 'The Darkest Star' of us - remixers. Again - this one is very atmospheric. Water and wind is popular for 'The Sun And The Rainfall' as an Introduction. I hear that the main sequence is nearly similar to mine, which I used to my TSATR mix before...and also iSLAND used it for his 'Halo' mix in 'iSLANDER Taster' - so maybe we have the same musical thinking and ideas or that plug-in is simply popular and favourite. It starts at 1:05 ...then - after a while - the power of sweet choir is changed by power of drums!!! Beatz are so powerfull here and I love it!!!

Ha, I just wanted to write that 'dark' is in background only and it's really 'SPRING TIME' with those violins and orchestra but at 4:00 ...the bass appregiator and darkness is back again. This track is full of contrasts for me and I didn't recognise any problems with voice synchronisation...maybe I was focused on SFX so much, but I like the production here anyway

Everything Counts
by 'Dreamtime'

Everything it's an outstanding track we all must love. I expected more of this remix, but I was disappointed that it is (only) cut/paste mix as Alan wrote in his quick review. Let's hear where's the truth. And also - other thing I want to mention - this is propably the first DreamTime's mix I have ever listen to. Two and a half years before I also started mixing with cut/paste method...but after couple of tracks I find it boring and find myself to be more a music producent/composer rather than mixer.

It's quite a pitty that you haven't tried something with new CTA again acapellas...even it isn't everytime clear, the vocals from centre channel are good source where to begin. Anyway...although that there's nothing new in this mix for me, I appreciate added live part and the echoed/re-verbed end of this mix. If You are new in our 'remix brand' - WELCOME and keep up a good work, if you really like remixing, You're able to improve as well..
I am not telling that I am perfect...only a few guys here are...and I am still modest...,but I just wanted to tell that You can be better musically, mixing - I think - isn't a problem for You...

Stories Of Old
by 'NerWraK'

This is pleasure for my years, something new and fresh...and WELL DONE! That's why I like new ideas and melodies, sometimes it inspires me as well. And the other thing...I love the bass lines. Together - it's very 'dancy' and rhytmic! Stereo effect are also good and you have had fine idea to cut those vocals...

Maybe, there aren't any dramatical changes and transitions, but in my opinion, it doesn't matter. To conclude, this is a complex remix with additional samples (Lie To Me) and good choice of sounds, maybe one melodical change would be essential. But it depends...it works enough for me so I lost the words in the end. Congratulatons...

Fly on The Windscreen
by 'Axis'

I have a slightly misunderstanding feelings with this thing. Again - nice original introduction, musically correct, great 'analog' sound and bass - like an electro house style, faster tempo, but added 'talking - movie' parts are sometimes disturbing me from excellent music. Maybe it's because I simply DO NOT understand everything and don't know what is the connection or association between music and those parts.

...that was after I listened to it for the first time. Now it's clearer for me, when I hit 'repeat' button. And You achieved, Axis, that I am not using imagination like I was watching that movie on TV. It's very hypnotic together - not bad at all!!! and I am laughing in the end...'I just don't turn it off'...Nothing's really over!

I Want You Now
by 'Jerry Jay'

What can I write againts my own version. Should I critise myself or...? this dub version might be different for you - the original 'dub concept' was even longer. But the first part was maybe boring and still might me 'monotonous' - so I cut something 'cause I wanted to introduce the vocals and some original melodies sooner rather than later.

Voice was very hard to extract, and also the accapella from the MFTM Remaster isn't 100% clear, so the vocals might sound dull or overtuned. In the end, I was satisfied with final result. I didn't use the whole vocal parts as you can hear, but for a dub version is better 'cause I've had some troubles with mixing and sync. In conclusion it turned into a decent track, so there's nothing I am worried about. THX for all the comments and listening to the whole project. And for support of course!!!

Blue Dress
by 'Apathy In Motion'

First slower song of this album and this baladic/acoustic version fits here exactly! Atmosphere is so sweet and cute here - vey romatic if I can say it like that. 'Job's finished' and it's a good effort. It definitely deserves an applause. The music floats slowly thru the whole length of the song!

There's nothing better than that melody in the Intro, which is used several times during the mix. Great melodical idea, thank you for composing this one...

Rush
by 'Numanoid'

The album works here together very well. Slow balad is changed by powerfull melodic 'Rush' version. As I was listening last 3 days BE3 I find some similarities or connection with Your last contribution in 'The Butterfly Effect' series. The echoed bass line simply reminds me Your Lie To Me bass line from BE3. the first loops between 0:18 and 0:35 at least. The sound is different, but melody is similar and I just though..yeah..This is going to be another N-I's great mix! And it's true!!!

At 2:23 is the start of my favourite part and when the high short synth comes...it's beautiful along with the compination of bass melody sequencies. Another thing what I really like is the fact that it floats gradually till the and. Addition of the snare drum at 4:16 is 'spot on'. Perfect remix and thank You, Inge!

The Love Thieves
by 'Ecnelis'

That's it. Everyone's different taste. And I like it as a nice interlude before the last tracks. The bass drum is maybe to strong for the song like this...but there's no other thing I can critisise.

For me, the strings, synths and the piano are better here than the bass. Especially the synth sound at 1:22 is really cup of my tea! But I am sad that You used that great sound only once in the mix. Never mind...

I Feel Loved
by 'Kennet1000'

Let's hear if it there are only 'BOOMs' in this mix. I must admit that the hard beat and bass is dominant. But it's another style...I am sorry that there are no additional melodies, although I like some effects (siren in INTRO, laser guns and some other things in background) and underground dance/club atmosphere.

To be honest, it's really harder to listen to it, You need a proper mood, some biers and the podium. I can see this track playing somewhere during the open-air festival with the fog and light effects.
I know the bass/drum line, which starts at 2:52, but I don't remember where it is from? Any clue Kennet???

The Darkest Star
by 'DFEG'

The last track of the album. I don't beleive that I am in the end of this review. As DFEG mentioned several times and because of that I was looking for that, because I was really curious how DFEG remixed this hard track.

Good rhytm and tempo, nice organ going from left to right, some bobbling basslines, unusual drums for the song like this on. very independent and relaxing, not so flustrating and dark like an original. I like that it's different with new ideas and effects. Nice remix, DFEG. I like it. Really odd compination of sounds, but take it like a compliment rather than a criticism.
